PROLOGUE
The Oort Cloud sits at the far reaches of the solar system, barely held in its place by the immense gravity of the Sun.
It is cloud of billions of potential comets.
Not much happens in this desolate area of the solar system, but passing it and heading for our own star are a thousand objects.
Most are moving in a straight line, others are haphazardly darting left and right as they move though space.
They are clustered together like a giant swarm of bees moving as one.
However they are heralding something far larger as in the wake of these objects a monster is following like a whale behind the shoals of fish that it stalks.
But this giant isn’t feeding on the smaller objects, they mearly protect it.
They have travelled from other side of the galaxy to our solar system and their journey will be over soon.
If you were to pan out away from the Oort Cloud and the swarm you would notice something else moving through the void of space.
Another light was blinking on and off and with every flash it was drawing closer to the swarm. Everytime it flashed it moved 500,000 miles closer to the fleet, then stopped when it was a few thousand miles away.
Zoom in again and the flashing light turns out to be a space suit.
The astronaut floats aimlessly in space, the giant fish bole of a helmet is featureless and reflective, but someone is inside and the arms and legs flail around.
The arms find two leavers on the side of the suit and manipulate them. The jetpack of the astronauts back emits small puffs of gas, which turns the astronaut around to face the incoming hoard of objects.
The astronaut then flips the visor of the helmet upwards.
Inside is a small boy floating around in the oversized suit that was built for someone bigger than him.
He takes out a pen and paper inside the suit. He is so small and the suit so big that he had more than enough room to manoeuvre and take down notes.
The objects start to fly past him and he starts counting, making a tally of them all as they dodge him in their tireless effort to reach planet Earth.
Once the smaller ones have gone, the larger object following them approaches the astronaut. It isn’t going to fly past its going to hit the boy in the suit.
The boy activates his teleporter and disappears and re-appears just to the right of the monster giant object as it cruises past.
The boy make one final tally on the notepad.
“956,” he announces to himself as the giant moves closer to the sun.
The boy then activates his teleporter again and moves ahead of the fleet, then teleports again, and again, each time moving through space closer to his homeworld. Each teleport takes less than a 10th of second, but he has to teleport like this thousands of times. In ten minutes he’s on the edge of the solar system, another four and he’s in orbit of Neptune, another two he’s above Mars then finally a minute later he’s above planet Earth.
He then has to adjust the telporter and in one more flash he’s back on the surface of the Earth in a forest that boarders a huge industrial centre.
The boy falls over as the he cannot stand in the large suit that isn’t really designed to be worn on the surface of the Earth, instead of floating above it.
He manages to unzip it from the inside and squirm out.
Standing next to him a tall being made of liquid metal. The being was roughly human shaped and had his hands behind his back.
“Welcome back Luke, how did your mission go?”
Luke dived back into the suit. He returned holding not one, but two teleporters, one was smoking and charred.
“Your changes worked, with both of them working together they could jump fifty times further than usual, luckily your teleporter didn’t burn out until I reached the solar system.”
The metal being just grunted.
Luke dived into suit again and pulled out the notepad.
“They are on their way, I counted 956,” Luke asked.
The liquid being formed a smile on his ‘face’
“Not long now,” the liquid being said, "we must be ready for when they get here. Finally I will be ruler of an entire planet once again and this time the Judges will not be able stop me."
